What about trying the pattern you found but using garter instead of reverse stocking? So it would be:
row 1: knit
row 2: purl
row 3: knit
row 4: knit
row 5: knit
row 6: knit
with the increases and decreases to work on the bias done as in the pattern.
(I think I have the knit rows correct, but I am sick so I may be way off.)
Don't these make you want to pop out some babies?
