in pictures

By now everyone's seen beaucoup images of Obama and his family, but here is a link to some of the most moving. I love the intimacy of the photographer's captions. Looking at the photos imparts the feeling of politics in another exciting time, the 1960s. Obama comes across as an old-fashioned, no nonsense politician (assuming such a person has existed).

Waiting: Obama listens from a back stairwell as he is introduced in Muscatine, Iowa. It was his second or third speech of the day. Unlike many of the politicians I have photographed in the past, I find it is easy to get a photograph of Obama alone. He lets his staff do their jobs and not fuss over him. Nov. 7, 2007.

I look at these photos and think about how much is riding on this election. Obama, in my opinion, represents the best of America and such promise for our future. I think about our history and the struggles of people of color and the fact that we are this close makes me cry.

If he wins, not all will be "better." Our history and our current racism will still exist. There is no doubt Obama will be a target for some extremists. But the journey towards acceptance, equality and understanding will be one step closer.

And I have no doubt that the America I love - the place of freedom, women's rights, compassion for those less fortunate - will be better served by President Obama.

Thanks for sharing the photos!

Thank you for sharing the photos --- thoughtful, reflective --- pictures can sometimes convey more than words.

Some of those pictures brought a tear to my eye. So beautiful. I love the one of the soles of his shoes. And there was one of a campaign stop...it looks like the event where a knitter got him to hold her sock. I could be wrong, but it looked like it.

It's great that you posted this site for photos. Even though I've seen most of them on KFO it is always great to look at them again. Thanks...less than a week to go! Then we'll all have to get a life again, lol.
